The Power of a Toilet

In February 2025, I, Maria Klaas, traveled to Cambodia and met with a few members of our SI Club in Phnom Penh. During our visit, they told me about a preschool in the remote village of Krang Roluos, located in Kampot Province.

What we often take for granted – a toilet, clean water, basic hygiene – is completely missing there. The children and teachers currently rely on a private toilet belonging to a local resident. But what happens when he’s not at home?

This image stayed with me. How can children focus on learning when even the most basic hygienic conditions are missing? Sanitary facilities are not a luxury – they are a human right. They protect against disease, restore dignity, and are the foundation for a safe and healthy learning environment.

That’s why I’m asking for your help: Let’s build a sanitary facility for this preschool – including one toilet, a handwashing station, and a well.

With just EUR 4,500, this project can become a reality – giving 47 children aged 3 to 6 a safe, dignified place to learn and grow.
